I was commissioned to hand varnish this small boat by Nick from Nick Auston Design. It was from his childhood and had been a little neglected. So After a whole lot of restoration work, and new Sapele timber installed, it was down to me to get that looking nice and shiny! Aside from just varnishing the bare wood with 3 coats of Epifanes yacht varnish, There was also a lot of work to do with the oars, rudder, mast and back seat. With these being a softwood, I needed to remove all the old coating,

It has a “pleasant orange scent”, but I’d still recommend wearing a respirator. 1.) Apply a liberal amount 2.) Brush around evenly 3.) Cover in saran wrap 4.)
